Who we are
Being Design is a boutique branding consultancy focused on helping purpose driven organizations scale their impact through technology and design. With our unique blend of strategy, branding, and human-centered design, we empower conscious leaders to build impactful businesses for the digital era.
Our team is small and primarily remote, spanning 3 countries and 5 time zones. While the core of our business revolves around strategy and branding, a great deal of our implementation relies on web development to bring those brands to life. As such, we’re actively seeking a wordpress expert to take the lead as a reliable steward for our clients’ growing digital footprint.

As our “Wordpress Guru”, your primary responsibility will be to act as a reliable steward for the growing number of websites that we’ve helped build for our clients. (Currently, this stands at 35+ websites.) This role includes responsibilities like maintenance and security, migrating and launching sites, making DNS updates, running wordpress updates, and debugging issues. You will spend a great deal of time operating the WordPress backend and related systems. You will also help us to continually refine our custom WordPress ecosystems to get the most out of the world’s most versatile CMS.
As a contract worker, you’ll be in control of your own schedule, with the caveat that you’ll be reasonably responsive to requests made within the regular working hours that you specify.
Specific Responsibilities include:
- Managing our company’s enterprise hosting environment (Flywheel hosting)
- Installing, migrating, or removing sites

- Configuring custom post types as needed
- Configuring third party plugins as needed. (Plugins such as WooCommerce, Learndash, Modern Events Calendar, etc…)

- Updating MX records for domain changes or email client changes
- Updating TXT records for verification purposes
How you will work:
- You will be responsible for managing your own time, and setting reasonable expectations for completion times of requests.
- You will occasionally communicate with clients directly via email to assess their needs and evaluate technical solutions.
What you should already know and do
- You should have 5+ years of experience with WordPress. Or, if not 5+ years, then you should at least have a good sense of how wordpress sites behave over time, what tends to go wrong, and how it can be avoided. You should be familiar with its perks, but also its quirks.
- You should have a solid grasp of HTML, CSS, and PHP. You should feel comfortable creating child themes, and making updates to template files for themes or plugins.
- You should feel comfortable making file changes via SFTP client.
- You should feel comfortable finding solutions to things you don’t know. You should be comfortable asking questions to your teammates, and researching solutions when answers are not available.

What it's like to work with us
- At Being Design, we put people first. Not only would you get to work with a passionate team of caring creatives, you’d also get to contribute to our mission of making the web, and the industry that supports it, a more human place to be.
- While our team is distributed across different time zones, we try to be available to those who depend on us. We’re certainly not chained to the 9-5, but as a courtesy, we make an effort to work regular hours, regardless of where those hours fall.
- We don’t believe in multitasking. Instead we believe in creating consistent schedules to do good work and produce reliable results. We’re happy to co-develop a workflow and work schedule that works best for everyone.
- We have 1 weekly team meeting that usually lasts between 30-45 minutes. Other than that, the only required meetings are those that are necessary to solve technical issues, review work, or coordinate project timelines.
